Davis Cup: Rohan Bopanna bids adieu

Rohan Bopanna bid farewell to Davis Cup on a high note, teaming up with Yuki Bhambri to defeat Morocco’s Elliot Benchetrit and Younes Lalami Laaroussi 6-2, 6-1 in the World Group II doubles match. This victory was a fitting end to Bopanna’s remarkable 21-year Davis Cup career. India secured an unassailable 4-1 lead in the tie, with Sumit Nagal defeating Yassine Dlimi 6-3, 6-3.

In the dead fifth rubber, Digvijay Pratap Singh won 6-1, 5-7, 10-6 against Walid Ahouda. India’s victory means they will advance to the World Group I play-off in 2024.

Bopanna and Bhambri displayed excellent coordination, dominating their Moroccan opponents with powerful forehands and solid serving. After winning the first set 6-2, they knew victory was within reach.

Nagal’s strong serving and consistent play secured his 6-3, 6-3 win. He broke Dlimi’s serve in crucial moments to seal the victory.

As Bopanna bid farewell to the Davis Cup, he celebrated with the crowd, draped in the Indian flag, thanking fans for their support.
