CII to implement toolkit to support Indian MSMEs

To enhance climate action by MSMEs and transitions in the value chain, CII has developed a toolkit to support Indian MSMEs in measuring GHG emissions and assessing their vulnerability due to climate-related risks.

Under the Climate Action Charter initiative, CII will be working with the industry cluster in Coimbatore to identify climate-related risks to businesses, demonstrate the toolkit developed and highlight the expected outcomes and benefits to the industry cluster.

CII will implement the toolkit and assist the industry cluster in identifying gaps and solutions to address climate-related risks.

MSMEs are of vital importance to India’s economy contributing about 30% to the country’s GDP and providing employment to 11.1 crore people. MSMEs are also responsible for 48% of India’s total exports and the government intends to enhance this to 60% while increasing employment generation to 16.1 crores.

“Businesses have the power and the responsibility to drive positive change in the world. It’s a win-win situation, and through this Climate Action Charter Initiative, we believe CII can help businesses to step up and do their part. These efforts align with the climate missions set up by the Government of TN and with District Climate Change Missions planned across all districts. The Climate charter by CII at Coimbatore will help us move forward sustainably,” said Prashanth S, Chairman, CII Coimbatore, Co-Founder & CEO, Quadrasystems.net.
