TNAU signs MoU with Sugarcane Breeding Institute

Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore, and ICAR-Sugarcane Breeding Institute (ICAR-SBI), Coimbatore, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate research and training for postgraduate students. TNAU, recognized as the recipient of the prestigious Sardar Patel Outstanding ICAR Institution Award and ranked 5th in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023 in the Agriculture and Allied Sector Category, will collaborate with ICAR-SBI, one of the oldest premier agricultural research institutes under ICAR.

The signing ceremony, attended by delegates from both institutions, saw TamizhVendan, Registrar of TNAU, Coimbatore, and Hemaprabha, Director of ICAR-SBI, Coimbatore, exchange the signed agreement. Geethalakshmi, Vice-Chancellor of TNAU, Coimbatore, highlighted the importance of this academic collaboration and expressed optimism for future advancements.

The collaboration aims to promote students’ training and quality research in various cutting-edge areas, including varietal development, advanced clonal demonstration, genome editing, tissue culture techniques, mass multiplication of elite clone seedlings, identification of location-specific varieties, and collaboration with agricultural universities and industries.
