Bharathiar University soon to establish DRDO-Industry-Academia Center

DRDO-Industry-Academia Center of Excellence Bharathiar University (DIA-CoE BU) will be established at Bharathiar University in Coimbatore. Recently an MoU was signed for the next 25 years (up to 2047) and exchanged between DRDO and BU at DEPEXPO 2022, Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

Dr S. V. Kamat, Chairman of DRDO and Secretary of the Department of Defence Research and Development exchanged MoU with Professor Lovlina, Member, of Vice-Chancellor Convenor Committee of BU in the presence of defence minister Rajnath Singh, Scientific Advisor to Defence Minister Dr.G.Satheesh Reddy, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral R. Hari Kumar, Director General (TM), DRDO Shri Haribabu Srivatsava, Director DFTM, DRDO Shri KK Pathak and several other dignitaries.

The Initial phase of this CoE shall focus on (i) Biosensors, micro fuel cells, enzymes, tissue-based biosensors, and also bio-threats including environmental monitoring, Materials will be developed for hydrogen and fuel cell technologies for sustainable future and military & space applications, biomass derived fuel processing technology; gas sensors for environmental monitoring, fire detection, detection of harmful gases and (ii) Environmental Toxicity Management including hazardous chemicals. Further, the centre will expand its research verticals as per the industrial and academic strength and needs of this region and defence. Under DIA-CoE BU, DRDO will establish major scientific/ technical and infrastructural facilities under identified research verticals which are necessary for future technology development.
