Avinashilingam inaugurates ‘Police Akka’ project

Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, Coimbatore, inaugurated the “Police Akka” project launched by the Coimbatore City Police for the first time in the state.

The project envisages creating a socially and emotionally conducive environment by assisting the women students who would be coming forward to seek counselling assistance or it may be for reporting any form of harm, abuse or risk for the safety of their movements both within the institute and outside with the assistance of “Police Akka” identified and trained with the necessary skills and the aptitude to reach out to the women students in the institute.

Students were informed of the contact details and scheduling of the programme with “Police Akka” which would also be displayed at significant locations and put up on the institute website for wider accessibility and reach out to the students.

V.Balakrishnan, City Commissioner of Police inaugurated the “Police Akka” Project. Meenabigai, Inspector of Police and Nodal Officer for this Project introduced Dhanabagyam, Head Constable, All Women Police Station, Gandhipuram and Mentor -“Police Akka” for the Avinashilingam Institute.
