The President honoured 75 outstanding educators at the event, which was organized by the Ministry of Education to recognize teachers who have made significant contributions to the education system and positively impacted their students’ lives. This year’s awards also included teachers from the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, highlighting the importance of educators in various domains.

The selection process was rigorous and transparent, overseen by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who formed three national juries to choose the recipients. Each awardee received a certificate of merit, a cash prize of Rs 50,000, a prestigious silver medal, and the opportunity to interact with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 4. During the interaction, PM Modi emphasized the vital role teachers play in the country’s growth.

Prof. Brindha expressed her gratitude after receiving the National Teachers’ Award 2023. She mentioned that her nomination for the award came from Principal Giriraj, coinciding with the silver jubilee year of the Diploma Programme in Computer Networking at the college. This diploma program was initially a unique offering in India and has since been successfully sustained and popularized. She also shared moments from her interaction with PM Modi, stating, “I asked the question, ‘What’s the new role of teachers?’ to him. He replied that teachers must not discourage students. Instead, they should encourage students in their chosen fields, whether in education, sports, or any other area. He emphasized that punishing students is not the way; instead, teachers should provide encouragement. According to him, a teacher’s role is to help students develop their talents for the betterment of society.”

Professor Brindha expressed her appreciation for the warm and respectful treatment she received during her visit, including interactions with prominent leaders like President Droupadi Murmu and Higher Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. She highlighted the pride of being the sole recipient of this award in the Ministry of Higher Education category across Tamil Nadu.
