KMCH College Imparts Essential Oncology Competencies

KMCH College of Nursing, Coimbatore recently organized a “Basic Course in Oncology Nursing Competencies”. The program focused on equipping nursing students with essential skills to provide comprehensive care to cancer patients.

The inaugural day featured speeches from renowned faculty and guest speakers, including Dr. Bharath Rangarajan and Dr. Sachin Jayakumar, who discussed advances in medical oncology and safe handling of cytotoxic drugs.

Day two included talks on recent advances in surgical oncology by Dr. Ezhir Selvan, followed by presentations on pre and post-operative care. Day three saw Dr. Subramaniam discussing recent advances in radiation oncology, and students received hands-on training in the radiotherapy unit.

The final day involved an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) evaluation, assessing students’ proficiency. The valedictory function concluded the program, where students provided valuable feedback.

Through informative sessions, workshops, and practical demonstrations, the students gained essential oncology nursing competencies, ensuring they are well-equipped to contribute effectively to cancer care.
