2022 PGTI to commence on Wednesday

The TATA Steel PGTI Players Championship 2022 presented by KGiSL announced its commencement from August 17 – 20 at the Coimbatore Golf Club. The tournament carries a prize purse of Rs. 50 lakh and marks the Professional Golf Tour of India’s (PGTI) return to Coimbatore after eight years. The Pro-Am event will be staged on August 21.

A total of 126 players are reported to participate. Wherein 123 professionals include the Indian professionals Khalin Joshi, Manu Gandas, Shamim Khan and Abhijit Singh Chadha while the prominent foreign players include Sri Lankans K Prabagaran (defending champion) and Mithun Perera as well as Bangladesh’s Jamal Hossain and 3 amateur players.

Uttam Singh Mundy, CEO, PGTI, said, “We thank Coimbatore Golf Club and KGiSL for partnering with us for the PGTI Players Championship and facilitating the return of professional golf to Coimbatore after eight years.”

R Gopinath, President, Coimbatore Golf Club, said, “We have a golf course blessed with strong winds that have always been a deceptively tough course. With the good rains recently, the course is presented in pristine condition offering a strong challenge to the golfer. After nearly eight years the PGTI makes a stop at Coimbatore Golf Club.”

Prassadh Shanmugam, CEO of KGiSL, said, “I am sure that a tournament of this stature will invigorate more youngsters to take up Golf, and will create more awareness among the public. Being an avid golfer myself, I am looking forward to watching the pros in action.”
