PSG Nursing College Launches Certificate Course on Breastfeeding

In collaboration with the Breast Feeding Promotion Network of India (BPNI), PSG College of Nursing inaugurated a one-week Certificate Course on “Breastfeeding & Infant and Young Child Feeding Counsellor” on 30th October 2023 at ‘A’ Block Seminar hall, PSG Hospitals. The course aimed to equip participants with essential skills in breastfeeding, lactation support, complementary feeding, HIV and infant feeding, and growth monitoring for children under two years.

The event was presided over by Prof. Jayasudha, Principal of PSG College of Nursing. She welcomed dignitaries and delegates from across the country and highlighted PSG Institutions’ journey and recent achievements.

Manju Bala Dash, Professor at Mother Theresa Post Graduate & Research Institute of Health Sciences, Pondicherry. He stressed the significance of breastfeeding to reduce malnutrition among children under five and encouraged exclusive breastfeeding. She emphasized that this knowledge is not limited to the medical profession but is essential for everyone.

The Chief Guest TV Chitra Bhat, Professor and Unit Head at PSG IMS&R Hospitals Coimbatore, commended the college for organizing the course. She underscored the importance of initiating and sustaining breastfeeding until the child reaches two years of age.

Jayavardhana, MD, Professor & Head of the Department of Pediatrics at PSG IMS&R Hospitals, congratulated the participants and emphasized the need to raise public awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding.

The course welcomed 25 delegates from various professions, including pediatricians, naturopaths, nurses, dietitians, physiotherapists, and childbirth educators. The dignitaries encouraged the delegates to become Lactation Ambassadors and support breastfeeding for a healthier planet.
