KMCH College’s Self-Care Skill Development

The KMCH College of Nursing’s Department of Mental Health Nursing orchestrated a Short Term Skill Development Programme entitled “MENTAL HEALTH SELFCARE: AN APPOINTMENT WITH MYSELF” from August 14th to 17th, 2023, held at the Multipurpose Hall. Attended by 95 third-year B.Sc(N) students, 5 second-year P.BB.Sc(N) students, and 1 first-year M.Sc(N) student, the program aimed to instill the importance of mental health self-care.

Led by Prof. Dr. Buveneswari, Prof. Jamunarani, Devi Krishna, and M Monisha, who had undergone Training of Trainers (TOT) on Mental Health Self Care, the sessions covered key topics. Day 1 focused on Emotional Regulation, Day 2 delved into Stress and Self-Care, while Day 3 concentrated on Communication and Interpersonal Relationships. The program featured interactive activities, worksheets, and motivational videos, enhancing the learning process and eliciting active participation from the students.

The program commenced with a pre-test on August 14, 2023, followed by an inauguration ceremony. Prof. Dr. S. Madhavi, the Principal, stressed the significance of Mental Health Self Care in her address. Concluding on August 17, 2023, the program included a post-test and collected student feedback. The “MENTAL HEALTH SELFCARE” initiative empowered participants to prioritize their mental well-being through practical self-care strategies.
