Satchidananda Jothi Nikethan International School, located in Kallar, recently organized its 24th annual cross-country race on August 13, 2023, under the theme “Run for Peace.” The event aimed to foster unity, harmony, and the values of peace and cooperation among its students. The enthusiastic response was evident, with a remarkable turnout of 750 students participating from various grades.
This annual cross-country race serves as a platform for the students to develop not only their physical endurance but also their teamwork and camaraderie, essential qualities to navigate the challenges of life. The excitement and dedication were palpable among the participating students, grouped into teams named Akash, Agni, Trishul, and Prithiv.
The event commenced early in the morning, with students demonstrating immense enthusiasm and energy as they followed the designated route from Black Thunder to the school ground. The atmosphere was vibrant, charged with determination and vigor as the participants cheered each other on to achieve their personal bests. The school staff played a significant role in motivating and supporting the students by being present at various checkpoints along the route.
Navaneetha Krishnan, Inspector of Police, and R. Gopalswamy, Sub Inspector of Traffic from Mettupalayam, flagged off the race. The event was graced by the presence of school dignitaries including Kavidasan (Secretary), V. Ganesan (Academic Advisor), R. Umamaheswari (Principal), and dedicated teachers.
Participants were categorized into three groups based on their respective grade levels. Students from classes 9 to 12 ran a challenging 5 km stretch from Black Thunder to the school’s main ground. The students’ enthusiasm was fueled by their desire to earn points for their respective teams, Agni, Akash, Prithvi, and Trishul. Although the primary focus was to encourage sportsmanship and camaraderie, the thought of clinching the coveted cross-country trophy motivated the runners throughout the event. Team Agni secured the first position, closely followed by team Prithvi as the runners-up. The winners were duly recognized with medals and certificates to honor their outstanding performances.
Kavidasan, the school’s Secretary, delivered an encouraging speech, acknowledging the students’ determination and commending their strong will. He emphasized that participating in such events is more significant than the outcome, as it imparts valuable life lessons about teamwork and perseverance. The event highlighted the students’ exceptional endurance, team spirit, and unwavering dedication, all of which were greatly appreciated by the attendees.
The meticulous planning and execution of the event were overseen by the school’s Department of Physical Education.
