KMCH College of Nursing’s Campaign for Organ Donation

World Organ Donation Day, observed on August 13th annually, aims to raise awareness about the critical importance of organ donation and debunk misconceptions surrounding it. Despite remarkable strides in medical science, the demand for organ donors consistently outweighs the supply. Addressing this issue, the KMCH College of Nursing and YRC Unit orchestrated a public awareness program with the theme “Step up to volunteer; need more organ donors to fill the lacunae” on August 16th, 2023, at Vagarampalayam Primary Health Centre (PHC).

Dr. R. Narendran, Associate Professor in the Department of Community Medicine at KMCH IHSR, delivered an enlightening discourse. He shed light on the intricacies of organ donation, emphasizing its life-saving potential. He elucidated the criteria for organ donation, intricacies of organ transportation, and underscored the necessity to propagate the message within society. He also shared illuminating statistics on organ transplant demand and completion rates in Tamil Nadu.

A pivotal aspect of the event involved participants taking a pledge to support organ donation. Sowmya, a YRC Volunteer in her fourth year, extended gratitude through a vote of thanks.
