Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan to host a musical fest for Pongal

The Coimbatore Kendra of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan has been doing its best to promote educational, cultural and spiritual activities. For the twenty-sixth year, the Bhavan will be conducting a five-day Music Festival in which eminent musicians perform. This year, the Bhavan’s Pongal Music Festival is scheduled from the 13th (Friday) to the 17th (Tuesday) of January 2023.

This year the Music Festival is dedicated in observance of the 200th Birth Centenary year of Saint Vallalar Ramalinga Adigal.

On the inaugural day, the prestigious title ‘Sangeeth Samrat’ is being conferred on Kalaimamani V.Rajkumar Bharathi in recognition of his outstanding service in the field of Carnatic Music. A popular Thiruppugazh Vidwan of our region N.V.Vaidyanathan will also be honoured with the ‘Kovai Subri Muruga Gana Award’.

Vocal concerts by Malladi Brothers Sreerama Prasad & Dr. Ravikumar on the inaugural day, S.Saketharaman on 14.01.2023 and Ashwath Narayanan & Sriranjani Santhanagopalan on 15.01.2023, Papanasam Ashok Ramani on 16.01.2023 and Sikkil C.Gurucharan on 17.01.2023 are scheduled on the respective days at 06.00 pm.

Apart from music recitals, Sadguru Sri Thyagaraja Aradhana will be observed on Monday, 16.01.2023 at 9.30 a.m. Musicians and music lovers of Coimbatore will perform the sole stirring Gana Raga Pancha Ratna Kritis and pay homage to Sadguru Sri Thyagaraja.

Besides music recitals by eminent musicians, there will also be music recitals by upcoming artistes from 4.45 pm to 5.45 pm on all days. The Pongal Music Festival attracts an appreciative audience of over 800 Rasikas every evening
