PSG iTech conducts Hackathon 2022

PSG Institute of Technology and Applied Research organized a three-day national-level hackathon “iTech Hackfest 2022” from 25-27 August. As many as 600 students across Tamil Nadu and a few other states participated in the hack fest.

Being the first of its kind, Hackathon offers a prize amount of Rs 1,00,000, Rs 75,000 and Rs 25,000 for the first, second and third winners respectively. The participating teams are presented with three themes “One Nation Digital Commerce”, “Sustainability” and “Diversity and Inclusion”.

SAP Academy of Engineering, the prime sponsor and Kaar technologies served as the resource team in enriching the hands-on experience of the participants.

Chief Guest Ferose V R, Senior Vice President and Head, SAP Academy of Engineering virtually addressed the gathering in the presence of Chandramohan, Principal, PGS iTech, Mohanram, Secretary, Manimegalai, Professor & Head of CSE and Jayanth Bagare, Chief Development Architect, SAP Academy for Engineering.

Presenting the presidential address, Chandramohan, Principal, PGS iTech, said, “It’s a great moment to organize this event and it is sure that the students will have a great time throughout the 3-day fest”. The fest helps in enriching practical knowledge in many ways. In addition, requested them to ignore subtle inconveniences as the purpose of the stay is to learn and to benefit from the resources.

During the virtual address, Ferose VR, Senior Vice President and Head SAP Academy of Engineering stated that coding is a significant aspect of the ongoing generation and in the upcoming year as well. It is very much essential for the students to gain a firm base on coding knowledge and utilize it resourcefully.

He added, “Success is not short-term”. Quoting one of the renowned authors’ explanation, he stated demonstrating ‘Grit’ is significant in taking long-term success. Grit is a combination of perseverance and Passion. Alongside, seeking long-term solutions is fundament and not many of them focus on that.

Emphasizing the fact of climate change he stated that sustainable solutions in the long term run are the need for the hour. Apart from that, one must learn to be a good giver. One much create a great difference amidst the group of takers. This Hackathon will serve as a platform for the students to become great givers by sharing and helping each other throughout the event simultaneously building teamwork. He said, “Giving is a good strategy”.

He added by encouraging all the participants to work on their failures by developing a failure resume. This in turn would help them evaluate their weakness and to improvise on the undefined aspects acquainting them to approach success at its best

Meanwhile, Jayanth Bagare received the felicitation on behalf of Ferose from Chandramohan, Principal and Mohanram, Secretary.

Subsequently, Mohanram, Secretary, PSG iTech briefed on the core purpose of iTech Hackfest and emphasized it to be one of its kind. He mentioned one of their alumni, working for BMW, Germany was an expert and that 6 of his projects are still ongoing. Alongside he redefined the concept of ‘Grit’ as ‘Enthusiasm’. Enthusiasm to work and to contribute should go hand in hand to make things possible as the industry these days demands grit as the prime aspect. In addition, he signified the need for individuals to redefine perspectives which leads to more exposure. Acknowledging failures to break through them is essential and if accomplished then the sky is the limit.

Followed by the inaugural sessions on ‘Principles of Sustainable Software Engineering’ was presented to the participants. Key emphasis on eco-friendly solutions in all sectors was discussed. This included less usage of electricity and simultaneous gaining huge outcomes.

Later Jayanth Bagare discussed the importance of the Hackfest and that SAP’s existence is there in everyday activities and a larger part of the corporates benefit through them.
