KMCH Nursing College’s Initiatives on World Mental Health Day

KMCH College of Nursing, in collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry, KMCH IHSR, observed World Mental Health Day with impactful events on 10.10.2023. A morning session featured Role Play, Mime, and a Poster Exhibition at KMCH IHSR Atrium, welcoming around 200 members of the public. Dr. Sathyaseelan, Asst Professor Dept of Psychiatry KMCH IHSR, initiated the day with a warm welcome, followed by the Presidential address by Maj. Gen. Dr. Ravikumar, Dean KMCH IHSR, emphasizing the prompt treatment of mental health issues. Prof. Dr. Madhavi, Principal of KMCH CON, shared insights, and Dr Srinidhi Nithyanand, Consultant Psychiatrist at KMCH, interacted with the public, elucidating available treatment modalities.

  

Students from B.Sc(N) and M.Sc(N) showcased Role Plays and Mimes addressing mental health challenges. A Poster Exhibition presented informative displays on mental health, illness, causes, myths, and facts. The morning session proved enlightening for the attending public.

In the afternoon, the Department of Mental Health Nursing organized a guest lecture aligning with the World Mental Health Day theme, “Mental Health Is A Universal Human Right.” Dr. Srinivasan, MD(PSY), Department of Psychological Medicine, delivered a keynote address emphasizing the disparity in awareness between mental and physical health. He advocated for proactive acknowledgment of negative emotions and thoughts, encouraging constructive activities and meaningful engagement. The program drew participation from approximately 600 nursing students and faculty, enhancing the impact of the day’s mental health initiatives.
