“NGP School Students Lead the Way in Sustainable Innovation”

Three students from the NGP School have secured the top positions in the prestigious ‘Sustainability Accelerator Program 2023,’ a national-level competition organized by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in collaboration with 1 Million for 1 Billion (1M1B) and Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail Ltd., India. This four-month-long journey showcased their exceptional dedication and innovation in addressing sustainability challenges.

Deekshita R, a ninth-grader, developed ‘GirlySOS,’ a safety device for girls and women, accompanied by the ‘VIGILHer’ mobile application. GirlySOS emits a bright light and a loud alarm, while VIGILHer sends emergency alerts to contacts and the local police upon activation. Deekshita’s project underscores SDG#5, focusing on gender equality and safety.

Shruthika S, an eighth-grader, designed an eco-friendly solution to tackle pollution in lakes and canals. Her innovation includes a “Floating debris barrier and an Integrated Aerator,” emphasizing SDGs #6 and #14 for clean water and life below water. Shruthika’s comprehensive approach involved expert feedback, community engagement, and sustainable technology.

Preetthika CV, also in the eighth grade, introduced ‘EduToolsAtEASE,’ a project dedicated to providing sustainable stationery resources to underprivileged students in rural and government schools. A dedicated website facilitates the ordering of stationery items, aligning with SDG#4 for quality education.

Their journey involved intensive research, product development, and collaboration with experts, educators, and community members. This hands-on approach ensured their projects not only met theoretical sustainability ideals but also practicality.

The CBSE’s Sustainability Accelerator Program serves as a vital platform for nurturing young innovators’ passion for sustainability. These three students’ accomplishments demonstrate the potential of young minds in shaping a more sustainable world. They have been invited to an exclusive 5-day internship program in Bangalore, reinforcing their role as change-makers for sustainability.

These students are not just exemplary in dedication and innovation; they are champions of a sustainable future. Their achievements highlight the power of collaboration and the importance of fostering sustainability from a young age.
