Chamber holds 87th Annual General Meeting

Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore (ICCIC) held its 87th Annual General Meeting on Monday in hybrid mode (virtual & physical).

Past Presidents of the Chamber including D. Nandakumar, MD, Selvam Agencies and Vanitha Mohan, Chairperson, Pricol Ltd, heads of fellow industry associations were present along with the members.

C.Balasubramanian , Chamber’s President welcomed the gathering and presented AGM report on the activities of the Chamber for the year 2020-21.

The President applauded the efforts taken by the State Government under the guidance of Chief Minister M.K.Stalin and District Administration of Coimbatore in containing the spread of Covid-19.

He shared that Chamber had been of incredible support to the District Administration to contribute Relief measures for Covid 19 affected persons.

“Our members were so generous and contributed liberally for this noble cause. With the funds received from our members and others we have given masks, face shields, PPE kits and Pulse oximeter to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital. We have also provided masks, Sanitizers, N95 masks, etc. to Tamil Nadu Health Department”, he said.

He thanked several generous contributors who assisted the Chamber in its relief activities. He conveyed that several vaccination camps were held and Staff of the member companies (nearly 6000) were vaccinated.

Apart from this the Chamber contributed Rs. 5,00,000 to the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund.

Support rendered to industry:

“Our Chamber jointly with CODISSIA, SIEMA and IIF promoted the All India Council of Association of MSMEs. The Steep increase in raw material prices was discussed seriously and represented to the PM of India. AICA appealed the PM to intervene in this matter to bring down the prices of raw material and help the MSMEs” the President said.

He also pointed out that the Chamber participated in the meeting organized by Commercial Tax Dept, addressed by Moorthy, Minister for Commercial Taxes, and the Chamber has submitted the grievances of trade and industries related to GST issues, E-way bills, waver of interest, extension of time, formation of Traders Welfare Board etc”

He shared the appeals made with Industry Minister Thangam Thennarasu, Rural Industry MinisterAnbarasan and Public Works Minister EV Velu.

Along with these several measures taken by the Chamber for industries welfare were briefed before the members.

Resolutions Adopted at AGM:

At the AGM, resolutions related to Railways (Including introduction of MEMU, creation of more infrastructure amenities at Railways Junction in North Coimbatore, Peelamedu and Podanur, extension of platform at Peelamedu, Irugur and Somanur Junction and other key resolutions) were passed.

Resolution related to Metro train, civil aviation, roads (western by-pass road and Coimbatore-Karur Expressway) were passed.

The members whole heartedly agreed that a National Investment and Manufacturing Zone in Coimbatore should be developed.

Resolutions related to GST, Reduction in GST slabs and rates Coimbatore Master Plan, Single Window Clearance, Electricity, Labour Law, Agriculture, Formation of Greater Coimbatore Development Authority were proposed, seconded and passed.
