Avinashilingam Institute  Celebrates National Science Day

Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women celebrated National Science Day on Wednesday

The celebration was organized by the convener Dr.Subashini, Professor, Department of Computer Science, and Dr. Gowri, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, Coimbatore.

The welcome address was given by Dr. Anitha Subash, Dean, School of BioSciences. The Theme for this Science Day Celebration was “Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat”. The Presidential Address was given by Dr. Bharathi Harishankar, Vice Chancellor, of Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women. She spoke on the importance of Science Day, and about Sir C.V. Raman’s findings, and how useful the day was for mankind.

Scientific temperament is more important to students. When AI is the buzzword today, students should traditionally validate their work before publishing. Scientific Development should be up to date based on the existing, emerging technologies and validated thoroughly.

The Science Day Address was given by Prof. Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra, Ravenshaw University, Cuttack, Orissa through virtual mode on the topic “Science for Sustainability”. He said, that every scientist has a role in sustainable production and Global Food Security. Sustainability is the result of a complex interaction of economy, society, and environment. Science gives, knowledge, technology and this can be applied for social benefits.

He spoke on the issues of food security impacted by green technology, International cooperation, Climate Change, Fixing the habitats, Societal Strata, etc. He said the challenges for today’s scientists are Pollution, Consumption, Emission and Population. He mentioned that scientists should ask questions like “Can I do it? Is it worth doing? Does anyone need it?”.

In connection with the Science Day celebrations various competitions such as Infography, Science Spell Bee, Innovative Ideas to Product, Quiz, Dissemination of Science knowledge to society through folk art and Mime were conducted based on the theme – “Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat”. Many registrations were recorded, and students participated and the best were selected as prize winners.

The Vice-Chancellor witnessed the product development exhibition and appreciated the participants and all the prize winners were appreciated. Dr.  Padmavathi, Dean of, the School of Physical Sciences and Computational Sciences proposed the vote of thanks.
