Immediate Collective Action Needed for this Critical Concern -Vanitha Mohan, Managing Trustee, Siruthuli

“Rich evidence was discovered on the banks of the Noyyal River, indicating a history of international trade, metallurgy, yarn, urban settlements, ancient coins, and pearls dating back 3000 years,” stated C R Elangovan, a renowned writer and historian. He shared these insights during the “Noyyalil Nalla Thanni” conclave at the Noyyal Peruvizha – 2023, held at Perur Adheenam Thirumadam.

The conclave aimed to raise awareness about water contamination in the water bodies of the Noyyal River Basin, especially among students. It was a collaborative effort by Siruthuli, Perur Adheenam, and Noyyalaru Trust.

Vanitha Mohan, Managing Trustee, Siruthuli said that any threat to River Noyyal is a challenge to mankind. She remarked, “Since 2003, Siruthuli has been dedicated to tackling water conservation issues. The unchecked rise of industrialization and urbanization has led to the distressing contamination of surface water and groundwater. Urgent attention and collective action from all stakeholders are imperative to address this critical concern.”

The event featured a panel discussion with experts including Maheshwari, Head of Department, Environmental Sciences, TNAU, Rajagopal, Junior Engineer, PWD, Manikandan from Kovai Kulangal Pathukappu Amaippu, and Krishnaswamy, Convenor,  Water Watch Siruthuli.
