KMCH College of Nursing Celebrates World Breastfeeding Week

The KMCH College of Nursing in Kalappati, Coimbatore, commemorated World Breastfeeding Week, observed every year in the first week of August to advocate, support, and promote breastfeeding. The event aimed to address challenges faced by working mothers in sustaining breastfeeding due to demanding schedules and work-related issues.

The theme for this year was “Enabling Breastfeeding: Making a Difference for Working Parents.” The Pediatric and OBG Nursing department organized a week-long program in collaboration with the Department of Pediatrics from August 1st to August 7th, 2023.

The program encompassed various events, including an inauguration ceremony, interactive sessions, video plays, quizzes, slogan competitions, and informative talks. Dr. Nalla G Palaniswamy, Chairman of Kovai Medical Center & Hospitals, inaugurated the event with a signature campaign and ribbon-cutting. Dr. K. Rajendren emphasized the significance of breastfeeding-friendly workplaces, while Dr. Umakanthan discussed global initiatives for breastfeeding working mothers.

Activities included role plays, mime shows, video contests, and informative sessions on breastfeeding techniques, positions, and benefits. A video contest raised awareness about breastfeeding, and a virtual interactive session was conducted in collaboration with the Indian Medical Association Women’s Wing.

The celebration concluded with informative discussions, engaging activities, and the distribution of pamphlets to mothers, promoting the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for a healthy future.
