TNAU inks MoU with ICRISAT

Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore, and the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), Hyderabad, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate postgraduate research and training. This collaboration aims to open up new avenues in agricultural research and contribute to sustainable agriculture practices.

The agreement was signed by Geethalakshmi, Vice-Chancellor of TNAU, Coimbatore, and Jacqueline d’Arros Hughes, Director General of ICRISAT, Hyderabad, on Friday, 30th June 2023. The collaboration will focus on various areas, including the development of resistant pigeon pea cultivars through advanced techniques and the understanding of plant-insect interactions to manage the pod borer complex.

Senthil, Dean of the School of Post Graduate Studies at TNAU, Coimbatore, highlighted the significance of this collaboration in promoting sustainable agriculture practices. By developing resistant cultivars and improving our understanding of plant-insect interactions, the reliance on insecticides can be reduced, yield losses can be mitigated, and sustainable agricultural practices can be promoted.
