SRH & Rotary start Pvt. Milk Bank for babies

Did you know that India has the highest number of premature deliveries in the world?  There are chances for mothers delivering pre-term babies to have difficulties in lactating or the mother may be sick, distanced from the baby due to surgery or other medical reasons.  Under such conditions, breastfeeding becomes absent.

To bring the life-saving breast milk, which is considered a Nectar, Sri Ramakrishna Hospital (SRH), Rotary Club of Coimbatore – Cotton City joined hands to start South Tamil Nadu’s first private Mothers’ Milk Bank.

Breast milk provides the most vital nourishment and protection to newborn babies. Due to various reasons, some mothers may not be able to lactate and breastfeed their babies.  To be of support to them, RCC Cotton City has launched this initiative, aptly called Nectar of Life.

The bank shall collect breast milk from donors, pasteurize it for the removal of bacteria and then deep-freeze it for storage before dispensation to infants in need.

This bank is equipped with state of the art infrastructure that includes pasteurisers, chillers, deep freezers, breast pumps and autoclave machines.

The team from Rotary stated that this bank will provide milk to all the babies who are in need. The bank will also provide a welcoming space for lactating mothers across the city who can donate extra milk.
