Cancer survivors are inspiration to everyone – Dr. Madulika Vijayakumar

National Cancer Survivors Day is an annual worldwide celebration of life that is held on the first Sunday in June. It is a day to recognize cancer survivors, raise awareness on the ongoing challenges cancer survivors face and most importantly cheer them to celebrate life.

Dr. Madulika Vijayakumar, Oncologist, PSG IMS&R said “a survivor is anyone living with a history of cancer- from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of life”.

This day is a special day for the survivors and those who supported them. This day reminds them to celebrate life and to show the world that it possible to have a good life after a cancer diagnosis.

Dr.Madulika said that today, cancer survivors are living longer, better quality of life than ever before. “Whether you’re still in treatment or finished it, there are many ways to continue to take care of yourself as a cancer survivor.”

She added that eating healthy, getting into regular physical activity and getting recommended cancer screening are an important part of staying strong and safe.

Dr.Madulika shared that cancer survivors have started appreciating themselves and their life more now. “Cancer survivor are an inspiration to those who know them. They are the ones walking in faith and seeking strength to do more in life”
