Tamil Nadu Govt comes forward to pay for higher studies of Nethra

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edapaddi K. Palaniswami announced that the State Government will bear the expenses of the 13 year old Nethra Mohandass from Madurai. She was appointed as the Good Will Ambassador for poor by the United Nations Association for Development and Peace.

The Chief Minister appreciated Nethra’s generosity, and for making Tamil Nadu & the nation proud. Thanking the CM, Nethra reaffirmed that becoming an IAS Officer is her destiny,

Nethra’s father, a barber by profession, was setting aside a portion of his earnings since 2013 so that it may help her realize her civil service dreams.  When Nethra learned that the poor in around her are suffering without food due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she convinced her father to use the savings in the piggybank to help them. Nethra’s generosity reached the Government and Prime Minister mentioned her in his Maan Ki Bhaat program.

The UNADP said “this act of selflessness-kindness needs to be recognized and rewarded” . Nethra will be given an opportunity to speak at the United Nations conference in New York and in Geneva. Being the Good Will Ambassador, she will have the opportunity to speak to world leaders, academicians, politicians and civilians encouraging them to reach out to the poorest of the poor.

Nethra was given Rs. 1 lakh as scholarship by UNADP. Earlier, there was a confusion among media about UNADP; whether they are a part of United Nations.  It has been made clear that UNADP is not a part of United Nations.  UNADAP is an organization run by former Diplomats, International civil servants, political ministers, and anti-corruption activists.
