Dr. NGPASC Organized Third Chanakya Endowment Lecture on GST

The Department of Commerce Accounting and Taxation of Dr. NGP Arts and Science College has organized The Third Chanakya Endowment Lecture on the topic “An Overview of Indirect Taxation Goods and Services Tax-career Prospects” recently.

The resource person of the session was K. Ramakrishnan IRS who is serving as the Commissioner of Central GST and Central Excise Duty (Audit), Coimbatore Central GST Commissionerate.

During the session the resource person conducted a roleplay relevant to taxation with two volunteer students, he spoke with an objective to familiarize students with the basic aspects Of the most important reforms in the field of Indirect taxation adding to the new amendments made in the tax regimes and tax slabs. He gave insider information on the career opportunities available for the students pursuing accounting and taxation through the UPSC (central) SSC (central) and TNPSC (state).

Further, he explained the tax structure that constituted direct tax (income tax) and indirect taxes (Goods and service tax -GST). He elaborated the application and benefits of GST, highlighting the differences between the previous and new tax systems of India. Adding to that he shared with the students his journey of UPSC. He encouraged students to keep themselves updated about the new amendments in GST.

He discussed the timeline and implementation of GST and how it brings economic unification of the nation. After the session the resource person opened the quorum for discussion and clarified the doubts raised by the students leading it to be an interactive and informative session for the students.
