PSG IMS&R Celebrates Foundation Day

PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (PSG IMS&R) commemorated its Foundation Day on the 30th of September at the PSGIMSR Auditorium. Established in 1985 as one of the first three medical colleges in Tamil Nadu, the institute celebrates its birth anniversary annually.

The event, graced by Dr. K Narayanasamy, Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, featured the presentation of the Scroll of Honour to distinguished alumni. Dr. Narayanasamy commended PSG and Sons’ Charities Trust for its significant contributions to education in the region. In his address, he highlighted the vital connection between alumni and their alma mater, encouraging increased engagement.

Four outstanding alumni received the Distinguished Alumnus Scroll of Honour including Dr. Deenadayalan Munirathnam, Clinical Lead, Department of Paediatric Haematology Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation Dr. Rela Institute and Medical Centre, Chennai, Dr. Premkumar Balachandran, Clinical Lead, Institutes of Hernia Surgery & Abdominal Wall Reconstruction, Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, Col. (Dr). M Muruganantham, Anaesthesiologist, Army Medical Corps and Dr. A. Senthil Vadivu, Consultant ENT Surgeon, Dr VK’s ENT Clinic, Chennai.

In his welcome address, Dr. T. M. SubbaRao, the Principal of PSG IMS&R, praised the awardees as exceptional and path-breaking, foreseeing further glory for the institution through their achievements.

In his presidential address, L. Gopalakrishnan, Managing Trustee of PSG & Sons Charities, emphasized the value of alumni in contributing to the alma mater’s growth and success. He acknowledged the alumni’s substantial contributions, ranging from scholarships to mentorship, enhancing the institution’s reputation.

Dr. Vimal Kumar, Professor of Surgery, delivered the Vote of Thanks, concluding a day of celebration, reflection, and recognition at PSG IMS&R’s Foundation Day.
