Singapore Tourism Sees Robust Recovery in Indian Visitors

G.B. Srithar, Regional Director of Singapore Tourism Board (STB) for India, Middle East, South Asia, and Africa, reported a significant increase in Indian visitors to Singapore in the first half of this year. Between January and June, Singapore welcomed around 5.35 lakh Indian tourists, reflecting a positive trend of recovery after the pandemic.

In 2019, Singapore received 1.41 million visitors from India, making it the third-largest source market after China and Indonesia. The recent surge in Indian visitors includes leisure travellers, families, young Indians, cruise holidaymakers, as well as business and meeting travellers.

To strengthen ties with the Indian travel trade and showcase the latest offerings, STB organized a three-city roadshow series in Jaipur, Pune, and Coimbatore. The roadshow aimed to highlight Singapore’s new attractions and accommodation options, including hotels with stunning city skyline views.

STB is positioning Singapore as a rewarding destination for Indian travelers by curating unique and exciting experiences. The board is also focusing on capturing the next generation of travelers, including young Indians and wedding tourists, who seek differentiated offerings.

Renjie Wong, Area Director, India, South Asia & Middle East (Mumbai), Singapore Tourism Board said, “The roadshow featured new attractions like Bird Paradise, a fascinating addition to Singapore’s wildlife attractions, located near the Zoo, Night Safari, and River Safari. Additionally, Palawan in Sentosa offers attractive experiences for young Indians, and Hyperdrive, Asia’s first gaming E-Go Kart experience, is set to open soon.”

For Indian travelers, Singapore offers a diverse range of attractions, including Orchard Road, Bugis Street, Little India for shopping, Sentosa, Night Safari, Gardens by the Bay, and Marina Bay Sands. Emerging trends show Indian visitors exploring newer attractions like the Museum of Ice Cream and hidden gems tours.

India is a crucial source market for various segments, including family, young travellers, and meetings and incentives. Singapore’s strategic location, excellent air connectivity, and port infrastructure have made it a thriving cruise hub in Southeast Asia, with over 40 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the region.

Cruising from Singapore has been a popular choice for Indian families, and India remains Singapore’s prime source market for cruise tourism. In March 2023, Disney Cruise Line and Singapore Tourism Board announced magical cruise vacations to Southeast Asia for the first time, further enhancing Singapore’s position as a regional cruise hub.

STB also recognizes the growing trend of female travelers from India, who feel empowered to travel and seek self-discovery in Singapore, thanks to the city-state’s exceptional track record for women’s safety. To cater to these travelers, STB launched the web series “On My Own in Singapore” with Tripoto, aimed at inspiring solo adventures in the enchanting destination.
