Forest Guards in Coimbatore District Receive Eco-Friendly Electric Bikes for Patrolling

The forest department in Coimbatore district has provided two electric bikes each to seven forest ranges for patrolling purposes. The move aims to make patrolling eco-friendly and noise-free. The district forest officer, N Jayaraj, recently handed over the electric bikes to forest guards and foresters in the Coimbatore, Madukkarai, Boluvampatti, Periyanaickenpalayam, Karamadai, Mettupalayam, and Sirumugai ranges. The event took place in the presence of assistant conservators of forest, C Dinesh Kumar, and M Senthil Kumar. The electric bikes can be fully charged in five to six hours and have a range of 140 kilometres, suitable for covering the distance typically covered by forest guards and foresters. The bikes come with three different mode settings to adapt to different terrains. Charging stations have been set up at the respective range offices. The state government purchased the electric bikes from a Hyderabad-based company at a cost of 1.35 lakh each. Forest guards appreciate the e-bikes for their quiet and non-disruptive movement in the forest area, which helps in protecting wildlife and maintaining the forest’s pristine nature.
