KMCH to hold Free Consultation for Parkinson’s

Parkinson’s is a neurodegenerative disorder and requires intensive attention. In India, one million people suffer from this disease. The cause of the disease is attributed to the decrease in the quantity of dopamine, a chemical substance that secretes in the brain. The common symptoms include shaking of limbs, body rigidity, slowness of movement and difficulty in walking.  The center of the brain has a part that controls bodily movements. Dopamine secretes from this area.

During the initial stage of Parkinson’s, hands will be shaky and rigid, handwriting will be illegible, face will be emotionless. From one part the disease will slowly spread to other parts of the body. Unfortunately, Parkinson’s disease cannot be cured but can be managed with the administration of various medicines.

In the recent times, a latest treatment called Deep Brain Stimulation is used to treat Parkinson’s patients. In this procedure, a pacemaker is fixed on the chest wall and with the help of electrodes electrical pulses are delivered to brain cells. This procedure is successfully being carried out regularly at KMCH hospital. Patients are satisfied and opt for this treatment.

An MRI scan helps to precisely determine subthalamic nucleus of the brain. The electrodes are fixed in this area through stereotaxic. This procedure has indeed become the boon for the Parkinson’s patients.

Come 20th May, KMCH will be organizing a Free Consultation Camp for Parkinson’s between 9 A.M. – 1 P.M.
