While presenting the award to PSG Hospitals, Sanjoy Raychoudhury the National Sales Manager of Abbott Healthcare said that there are around 70 to 80 parameters a pharmacy would be analyzed on, including the minute details like maintenance of a record about the efficacy of the dispensed medicine before the certification. “Hospital pharmacies play an important role because they sell the medicines to the patient, which saves their life. Vaccines have to be kept below 2 to 5 degree centigrade, which most of the pharmacies do not provide. They use only refrigerator by which cannot help maintain the temperature. But, PSG Pharmacies maintain the temperature of drugs, ABC classification of stock and turnaround time of drug distribution, which is a practice on par with the international standards,” he said.
According to Raychoudhury, on Pharmacy Management, PSG Hospitals is the only hospital in Southern India to get the highest score of 97 percent. ‘Being a promoter of PdQ, Abbot Healthcare believes that patient care is the ultimate outcome desired by any health care industry. So, the contract that we have had with the hospital for the assessment of pharmacy management will be valid only for 2 years and would be renewed if desired by the hospital,” he added.
However the audit would be conducted once in three to six months by the Team of Bureau Veritas to ensure patient outcome until the closure of the contract.
PSG Pharmacies has a drug information center, where, for each condition, the clinical pharmacist will explain to the patients the uses of the drug, the method of taking it, its interaction with other drugs, dosage and the importance of not missing a drug within a given timeline. “Our pharmacy has five specially appointed pharm deans, exclusively to monitor the proceedings, which would help the patients to know about the drugs they consume. In return it would be of great help to get the desired result in patient outcome,” said Ravindran, Pharmacy Manager of PSG Hospitals.
