Beauty of Spirit glitters in PSG Kadambari

The 5th Edition of PSG Kadamabari – a Carnatic Music Extravaganza from PSG & Sons’ Charities began with an impressive start on January 3, 2019.

The music fest’s inaugural began with a wonderfully synchronized and soothing Caranatic Music performance by the students of PSG Institutions.

During the inaugural, classicial Bharathanatiyam dancer Karuna Sagari was bestowed with the Prestigious Yuva Kala Ratna Award by the Chief Guest Kalaimamani S.Natarajan, President, Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Jayanthi Bhagavatha Mela Natya Nataka Sangam, Tanjore.

Accepting the honor, she said that she has worked for 10 years, and now receiving such an award means that she should work with more responsibility and she assured that she will. She thanked her mentor, family and PSG & Sons Charities.

Talking to The Covai Mail, she said woman is generally esteemed for her outward beauty and charms but her performance today is about the beauty of the spirit.

The Chief Guest in his address said Arts especially Music, Drama and Songs are woven in the very fabric of our culture. He felt sad that the current generation lack knowledge about the value of these arts and dont care about their culture and heritage.

He said that when art is embraced, the negative feelings vanishes in the performer and in those who experience it. “Promotion of Art and extending patronage to arts is need of the hour and on that note I congratulate PSG & Sons’ Charities for their immense contributions”, the Chief Guest said.

Karuna Sagari then performed under the theme ‘Chittam Azhagiyar’, a phrase from Thiru Vasagam that means Beauty of Spirit. The performance was an amalgamation of multiple stories from Tamil Literature.

Through her dance she first brought to life how Gopikas searched for Lord Krishna who has played games and disappeared from the beautiful Brindhavan.

In her next performance, she depicted the story of a woman belonging to the fisherfolk community. A man from a sophisticated city falls in love with that woman. He asks for the help of that woman’s lady-friend whom says ‘The girl you look for is the daughter of Bharathan, our chief. We fisherfolk have a life that is different from yours. You cannot give her the riches of the ocean. Go back”

Karuna Sagari said “women have given up their freedom and have said ‘yes’ to many life-changing moments. But this woman from a story in Tamil Literature thousands years ago has shown that we have to draw the line”.
