Brain dead 65 year old woman gave new lease of life to 5 persons

Mrs. Rajamani, aged 65, w/o Mr. Chenniappan, residing at Kambar Street, Ammapalayam, Tirupur District met with an accident 14.10.2019. She went to a shop nearby and was returning home by walk when a speeding two wheeler hit her. She suffered grievous injuries and was rushed to a private hospital in Tirupur. She was given first aid and then was referred to the KMCH hospital where she underwent intensive treatment. But there was no improvement in her health condition. On 24th October she was declared brain dead.

Her husband Mr. Chenniappan and their sons Mr. Sampath and Mr. Sankar said that Mrs. Rajamani had consented to donate her organs after her death. Accordingly they decided to donate her organs as per her wish. The organs – liver, kidneys and eyes – were harvested from the body of the deceased in accordance with the regulations prescribed by the Transplant Authority, Govt. of Tamil Nadu. Liver and kidneys were donated to KMCH hospital and the eyes were donated to a private hospital in Coimbatore.

The transplant surgeons at KMCH swung into action and swiftly made necessary arrangments to send the organs to the other hospital so that they reach the beneficiaries in time.  Dr. Nalla G Palaniswami, Chairman, KMCH thanked the family of Rajamani for their bold and timely decision on organ donation. He emphasized that more awareness is needed about organ donation. If only more people come forward to donate organs that would help save precious lives.
