Moms & kids make exquisite dishes at Hash 6 Cooking Contest

Hash Six Hotels, Coimbatore observed International Chef Day here on 20.10.2019celebrating healthy and fire-free cooking. Nearly 40 teams of moms and kids were seen keenly working on their vegetarian menus that they were to present to the judges, as part of the “Mom and Kid Cooking Contest”.

The Hotel, wanted to encourage youngsters to try their hand at cooking and was also keen on bringing out the significance of making and eating healthy vegetarian food.  Part of healthy cooking is keeping it fire-free, according to Hash Six’s Additional General Manager B. Sathyan.

Kids between the age of five and 15, along with their mothers got to try their hand at making various vegetarian dishes in the stipulated time of an hour.

The contest, organized by Hash Six in association with RAS Chekku Oil, Tanvi Foods, and Chandran Yuva Foundation, had a star attraction in the form of child chef prodigy Yeshwanth Kumar Umashankar.  He has the distinction of winning several prizes and awards in cooking and culinary competitions.  This 16-year old is well known for the accolades he won at the International Culinary Olympics held in Germany in the fruit and vegetable carving category in 2016, when he was a mere 13-year old.

Yeshwanth interacted with the contestants, and also demonstrated vegetable and fruit carving techniques.  He taught them to make dry fruit laddoos and a few healthy salads too.

Another highlight of the day was the visit of a few differently-abled children from a special school.  They enjoyed seeing the demonstrations and also keenly watched the contestants prepare prize-winning dishes.

Jagan Damodarasamy, Executive Director, Sree Annapoorna Sree Gowrisankar Group, Dr. Mini Vasudevan, Co-founder, Humane Animal Society (HAS), S. Sashi Kala, Chairperson of  Chandrans  Yuva Foundation, Ashwin Ramesh of RAS Chekku Oil,  Prabhu Gandhi Kumar, Managing Director, Tanvi Foods, and Dr.Kumar, KV Institute of Management and Information Studies, were the guests of honour.

After an hour of making innovative dishes, it was time to be judged for prizes.  The jury, consisting of Kavitha Ramesh of Kovai Shopping, Lalitha Gautam of Kovai Foodies, and Anith Geffrey and Krishna from Coimbatore Food Guide, took their time going over the dishes and selected the winning mom and kid duo.

The first prize was a luxury stay voucher worth Rs. 6,000, while the second prize was a premium stay voucher for Rs. 5,000.  The third prize was a Plant Barbeque dining voucher worth Rs. 3,000.
