Coimbatore women increasingly opting for Egg Freezing

A large number of men and women in India, under the age of 40, are being diagnosed with various forms of cancer, this in turn is greatly impacting their fertility health. In fact, there is now a growing population of young survivors who are facing quality-of-life issues, including the prospect of having a child, post cancer treatment. This is when onco-fertility or fertility preservation comes to the rescue, helping individuals retain their fertility or ability to conceive.

Nova IVI  Fertility is providing Egg freezing facility, giving hope to many women about having a family after surviving cancer. Cancer patients have the option to freeze their eggs, sperms, or embryos (for married couples) prior to cancer treatment, meaning if infertility unfortunately occurs, they can still conceive through IVF/ICSI using the frozen gametes, upon getting cured.

A woman’s ovarian reserve depletes with age, reducing the chances of conceiving naturally as she grows older and the quality and number of her eggs drop. Every month women in Coimbatore come to freeze their eggs due to varied reasons. One of the highlights of this facility is that the quality of the frozen egg or embryo remains practically intact even after many years.

Discussing the need for fertility preservation, specifically egg freezing, Dr. Latha.V, Fertility Consultant at Nova IVI Fertility, Coimbatore, said, “Chemotherapy and radiation often lead to depletion of the number of eggs, causing partial or complete loss of fertility potential in women. In such cases, egg freezing comes as a boon. Egg freezing, or oocyte cryopreservation, is a process in which a woman’s eggs (oocytes) are extracted, frozen and stored as a method to preserve reproductive potential in women of reproductive age”.
