In the virtual Congress Working Committee meeting that is currently going on Monday (Aug 24), Sonia Gandhi, the Indian National Congress’ interim president offered to quit the role. Sources say that she said “to begin deliberations towards the process of transition to relieve her from the duty of party president” Former Finance Minister and one of Congress’s leader, Dr.Manmohan Singh has urged Sonia to continue. The meeting is ongoing as of Monday noon.
Congress leaders in the south, like EVKS Elangovan have said leader from the Nehru family should continue. that “Congress without Nehru Family’s leadership is like a headless human. Their immense contribution to our Nation and our party is the main reason the very fundamentals of India is still holding strong against this fascist regime.”
A letter from senior party members to the party head demanded a change in leadership that is full time, effective, active and visible. This led to the meeting that is going on now.
