TNAU Organized NGS training

The Department of Plant Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics (DPMB&B) at the Centre for Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (CPMB&B) recently organized a four-day hands-on training program on Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Data Analysis. The program, held from May 23 to May 26, 2023, aimed to provide participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to analyze and interpret whole genome sequencing data.

A total of 25 participants from various disciplines and institutions attended the training program, including Genetic Engineering, Biotechnology, Plant Breeding and Genetics, Plant Physiology, Agriculture, and Microbiology. The sessions included lectures and practical sessions conducted by the faculty members of DPMB&B. The topics covered genomics databases, Linux commands, pre-processing of genomics data, whole genome sequencing assembly and annotations, SNP calling and annotation, and comparative genomics.

The training program was inaugurated with a welcome address by Kokiladevi, Professor and Head of Biotechnology at TNAU. Senthil, Director of CPMB&B, delivered a presidential address, and Umarani, Director of Seed Centre, gave a special address. The valedictory session included a training report presented by Jayakanthan, Assistant Professor at DPMB&B. Senthil delivered the valedictory address, and Shanthi, Director of the Centre for Plant Protection Studies at TNAU, felicitated the occasion.

The participants provided positive feedback about the training program, expressing their satisfaction with the knowledge and practical skills they gained. The successful completion of the training program demonstrates DPMB&B and CPMB&B’s commitment to promoting advanced research and education in the field of plant molecular biology and bioinformatics.
