KMCH conducts the first GEP NET update meet

KMCH Comprehensive Cancer Center hosted its first-ever update meeting on the diagnosis and treatment of Gastroentero Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumours (GEP NET) on May 6th, 2023 at Le Meridien, Coimbatore..

Dr. Nalla G Palaniswami, Chairman, KMCH inaugurated and addressed the meeting.  Dr Mohan Prasad (VGM) and Dr Venkatakrishnan (PSG) were the Chief Guests. Dr. Arun N Palaniswami, Executive Director, KMCH congratulated the organising team and also other faculty members who had been of great support for the initiation of the first GEP NET.

GEP NET is a rare cancer that has seen a significant increase in incidence due to advanced detection methods. The meeting focused on the multidisciplinary approach to treating GEP NET, with experts sharing their experiences and discussing recent guidelines on the diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Attendees included doctors from different hospitals in the Kongu region and post-graduate students. KMCH is equipped with advanced facilities, such as Endoscopic Ultrasound, Immunohistochemistry (IHC) markers, and PET/CT imaging, Peptide receptor radionuclide treatment (PRRT) and Lutetium-177 DOTATATE, etc.

Dr. Kamaleshwaran, Chief Nuclear Medicine consultant KMCH –Course director of the meeting said, “Since 2012, we have been treating GEP NET with the multidisciplinary approach with our entire team. Many doubts regarding diagnosis and treatment of NET are still there. So, to solve all those doubts and to teach young gastroenterologists and oncologists, this meeting was conducted with all experts in KMCH sharing their own case experiences.”

All recent guidelines of NET, the latest advanced endoscopic resection, IHC diagnosis, PET/CT imaging, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, SBRT, PRRT with beta and alpha radiation were discussed in the meeting. Chairpersons from leading hospitals shared their views.
