Sankara Eye Hospital unveils its 12th hospital in Mumbai

Sankara Eye Foundation announced recently that it has established its 12 hospital – R.Jhunjhunwala Sankara Eye Hospital- at New Panvel, Mumbai by joining hands with The R Jhunjhunwala Sankara Eye Hospital Trust.

Now the poor in the State of Maharashtra with the need for quality eye care can certainly breathe a sigh of relief because Sankara Eye Hospitals are known for their humanitarian service and unique approach.

The majority of the hospitals’ beneficiaries have been the poor in rural regions. They receive eye care totally free. For more than 4 decades, the hospitals under the Foundation have been rendering yeoman service to the public, and the foundation has also been expanding the service to other parts of the country.

This new hospital is built on 81,364 Sq.ft area at the heart of  New Panvel, with all specialities of Eye Care under one roof. In this facility, 15000 free eye surgeries will be performed every year.

The required Human Resource was identified in Maharashtra and sent to Sankara’s facilities in Coimbatore, Bangalore, Shimoga and Guntur for training. They were trained over the last couple of years, and now the first batch is ready to work in R Jhunjhunwala Sankara Eye Hospital, Panvel.

The hospital’s soft launch was done on 23rd June 2021 by Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, Padma Shri. Dr R V Ramani & Dr.Radha Ramani in the presence of Ramsheth Thakur – Ex MP and Dr Kavita Choutmal – Mayor, Panvel, and  Playback singer Shankar Mahadevan.

The Hospital is operational now and the formal inauguration ceremony of the Hospital would be held in the later part of this year.
