Dr. Raja Sabapathy’s concept becomes a global phenomenon!

Ganga Hospital’s Plastic Surgeon Dr. S. Raja Sabapathy had declared July 15th as National Plastic Surgery Day when he was the President of the Association of Plastic Surgeons of India in 2011. This was done in an attempt to increase the awareness of Plastic Surgery among the masses.

In the inaugural year, every plastic surgeon in the country did one free surgery.  In addition to that many did awareness talks, wrote articles in magazines and some units started special departments. This was followed with great interest every year for the past 10 years. His novel concept on Plastic Surgery Day has been discussed in a meeting of the Presidents of Plastic Surgery associations of various countries organized by the American Society for Plastic Surgery recently.

The decision of World Plastic Surgery Day comes after the current President of the Association of Plastic Surgeons of India (APSI) Dr.Rakesh Khazanchi, spoke about the National Plastic Surgery Day’s success in India at the World Council of Leaders, a body consisting of the Presidents of all National Associations. All agreed to celebrate July15th as the World Plastic Surgery day

Dr Raja Sabapathy said that Plastic Surgery originated from India, and Sushruta is hailed by all as the founder of Plastic Surgery.  Now we can also be proud that from India we conceptualized the World Plastic Surgery day.
