Amma Canteens’ noble service appreciated by Swachh Bharat

Amma Canteens, a noble initiative to feed the poor which was started by the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and ADMK Supremo, Dr.J.Jayalalitha is now effectively put into use for the public service during this COVID-19 Crisis time by the Tamil Nadu Government.

Swachh Bharat Mission called Amma Canteens as ‘A Savior in Testing Times’. It presented data which says that during this lockdown period 140.38 lakh idlis, 53.24 lakh rice and 37.85 lakh piece of Chappati were provided and 85 lakh people have been benefited.

Swachh Bharat said that Amma Canteens are doing a phenomenal job in serving food for the needy in Tamil Nadu and the nation salutes their efforts.

Minister for Rural Development and Municipality Administration S.P.Velumani shared this on his Twitter page. He appreciated the immense contributions made by Local Administrations and Amma Canteen staff for making Tamil Nadu get this honor.  He said that Tamil Nadu under the guidance of CM Edapaddi K.Palaniswami has been an example to others in feeding the hungry.

The service of these canteens have been really an unmatched support to the poorer sections during this lockdown period. In April 1, 2020 CM Edappadi K.Palaniswami inspected Amma Canteens at Foreshore Estate and Kamaraj Salai. He even ate food at one of the Canteens, asked about the taste and quality to a customer.

He inspected the cooking area along with Fisheries Minister D.Jayakumar. Addressing the press at that time, CM said that instructions have been given to the canteens to cook for any number of people who come to eat food at ‘Amma Unavagam’.

Prices are very low but people who eat have always said that quality is really good for the price paid.
