The Coimbatore Productivity Council organized an awareness program on Common Gastrointestinal Surgical Problems for its members, on 17.10.2019. Dr.K.Balu, Consultant- Surgical Gastroenterology Medical Superintendent, PSG Super Speciality Hospital was the resource person, and he delivered a lecture on ‘Common Gastroenterology Medical Surgical Problems’
K.Muthukumar, President, CPC welcomed the gathering and introduced Dr.K.Balu to the gathering. Dr.Balu in his lecture spoke about the Gastrointestinal Tract (GI Tract) that includes the organs that help from swallowing the food, storing it and all the way to sending it down for excretion.
He explained via powerpoint presentation the common abnormalities that will take place in the foodpipe, stomach, liver, pancreas, gall bladder and rectum.
He highlighted the roles each organ in the GI Tract plays and what types of issues in it require surgery. Of all the issues he mentioned, one thing was very shocking- that smoking and drinking alcohol for long has the potential to damage our GI Tract organs easily and slowly put us in harms way. The session was well received by the members of CPC who raised some of their questions to the doctor and cleared their doubts.
