TNFRS conducts ‘Fire Mock Drill and Safety’ program at Arima Cyprus Oaks

Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Service, Coimbatore conducted a Fire mock drill and Safety program in association with Arima Constructions at Arima Cyprus Oaks residential apartment, Pulliakulam, Coimbatore on 18.10.2019.  It was conducted by Position Office and Crew of Tamil Nadu Divisional office of the fire and rescue service, Coimbatore.

The Fire safety drill was launched by Mr.Muthukumarasamy, Station Officer, Peelamedu Fire Station who with his team demonstrated how to manage in emergency scenarios while living in apartments.

Mr.Muthukumarasamy addressed the apartment dwellers to not think that fire accidents would not happen in their vicinity. He informed them that in times of fire accidents, they will have to think of nothing else but to arrive (in 2 mins) to the assemble point (the ground),and not think of saving their jewels and precious items.

He asked the parents to immediately evade with their child and not let their kids till they pick their favorite things. He said when there is fire due to oil, pouring water will not help at all; instead immerse a gunny sack or a thick blanket in water, make sure that there is not water dripping much, and place it on the fire from the opposite side. It cuts the oxygen supply and stops the flame immediately.

For Gas leaks, he warned not to turn off any electric devices and switches off; not to use the cellphones but only open the windows if possible, get down and immediately phone the fire station.

With the arrival of Diwali and Monsoon season, he asked the attendees to not let their children out without making them wear slippers. If a cracker fails to burst, it is not advisable to bring it in side the house or keep it with the other crackers, he conveyed.

He conveyed that several years ago, the Fire Stations in TN have been tasked with the responsibility of Rescuing people. He said the rescue also goes with saving other lives like animals. He said if someone in the neighborhood causes disarray and affects their peace, he invited the public to call the TN Fire and Rescue Service.

His team demonstrated the various methods of holding a person (2 Hands, 3 Hands and 4 Hands Holding techniques),  and evacuating him if he is injured during a calamity. He urged them not to rely on lifts during emergency times.

The demonstration featured fire extinguisher operation techniques. In all demonstrations, the residents of Arima Cyprus Oaks involved themselves and made good use of the opportunity.
