‘Kida Virunthu’ at Gokulam Park brings village delicacies

Gokulam Park Hotels and Resorts surprises patrons once in every 3 months with a lip-smacking sumptuous food festival, that picks up a theme for every occasion. For this Diwali, the hotel has decided to bring back the cherished village themed ‘Kida Virunthu’ Food Fest.

Before addressing how the food is, a word must be said about the setup inside the hotel; it is a pakka village festival inside. When we step in to dine, we were welcomed by men and women clad in traditional dhoti and sarees, warmly greeting us with a cheerful ‘Vanakkam’. The banana leaves and the serial lights, the old mic-set, the roofs made of coconut-tree leaves over the stall all remind us of a visit to the village. The Aiyyanar statute kept inside will certainly bring to us nostalgia.

We met Chef Arul Selvan, the maestro behind the foods. He showed us one by one the delicacies offered in this Diwali Kida Virunthu.  Many innovative dishes including Kozhi Karuvepillai 65, Kongu naatu veeran sooru, Kuru Milagu Nandu Masala, Erachi Kothu Kari Idly, Idicha Nalli Elumbu Charu- and dishes that were made famous by the village but lost with the rise of modern cuisine are all available.

The exciting menu cannot be given justice by mere words; one has to experience the authenticity of the menu here. Chef Arul Selvan said every 3 days, the menu would be changed, making the kida virunthu more special.

Vegetarians are not forgotten in this virunthu as the menu extends to them also. From Kongu Murungai Kadasal, Mangai Thatta Payar Masala, Thalicha Karuvepillai Saadha, Thenai Arisi Biryani, there are dozens of exciting village flavors to try.

Special Desserts for this fest includes Jigarthanda, Panagam, Falooda, Nanari Sharbeth, Halwa, Kesari, Jilaebi, Suyyam and Thenga Burfi and much more.

Even when you leave, there will be Thenn Mittai, Kadali Mittai and Porri Kadalai to taste and take home the country-side sweety memories This fest is available from 17.10.2019 to 23.10.2019 and 27.10.2019.
