Reduce watching blue light for 1 week, get back your sleep

A research study made in the Netherlands by a research team from the Amsterdam  UMC Hospital has concluded that if people reduce exposing their eyes to blue-light emitting screens in smartphones, tablets and computer for a period of 1 week, they can break free from sleep issues.

“Adolescents increasingly spend more time on devices with screens and sleep complaints are frequent in this age group,” said study co-author Dirk Jan Stenvers from Amsterdam UMC hospital in the Netherlands.

Not just this research, many have proven that in the evening, exposure to blue light emitted from gadgets has high range of potential to affect the brain’s clock and the lower the production of melatonin – a hormone which is produced in the pineal gland in the brain that helps control the daily sleep-wake cycles.

Melatonin levels secrete more in the evening time (i,e) after the sun light starts to fade, like around half past five. After that, melatonin level remains mostly at a rise if we dwell in areas of lesser light. After the Sunrise, the hormone’s production lowers and this causes the persons to wake up.

If we expose ourselves to rich and bright lights, especially our eyes, it artificially affects the melatonin secretion and it disrupts our quality of sleep.

Poor sleep may seem to be a small issue while we are reading it in papers and magazines but medical fraternity and sources have said that it could lead to  smaller issues like dizziness, poor concentration and temper and even invite bigger health hazards like obesity, diabetes and heart related diseases.

Our generation which is on the pursuit of financial wealth has embrace sedentary lifestyle greatly and are unnecessarily becoming host to health hazards. It is high time we let our mind control our body and not the other way around.
