It was a mere formality for World Championships silver and bronze medal winners Sonia Lather and Simranjit Kaur along with CWG bronze medal winners Pinki Jangra and Manisha Moun who made a dream debut beating two-time world bronze medalist Christina Cruz in New Delhi, which they went over beating their rivals in respective categories to enter in the quarterfinals of the JSW Sports 3rd Elite Women’s National Boxing Championships at the Inspire Institute of Sport.
Pinki (Haryana) defeated Pratibha ( Delhi). Later, Simranjit and Manisha Moun, too joined, entered the quarters as the Punjab pugilist defeated Himachal’s Sandhya 5:0. Kerala’s Anchu Sabu received a walkover from Chandigarh’s Ravina even as Sanju (Haryana) beat Tanushree Bengle (Maharastra) 5:0. Other winners in the category included Kh. Shamim Banu (Manipur), who beat TC Lalremruati (Mizoram) and Y. Sandhyarani Devi(Andhra) over Mandeep Kaur(Punjab).
Gurmanprit Kaur of Delhi defeated Nisha Das of Assam 3-2 to ease through. The last two bouts in light fly attracted a lot of attention of the spectators as Pooja exchanged wonderful target blows against Pinki Kumari.
