PSG iTech hosts webinar on Implementation of NEP

The Departments of Civil and Mechanical Engineering of PSG Institute of Technology and Applied Research collaborated with the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to organize a one-day webinar on “Implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020” recently.

G. Chanamohan, Principal, delivered the welcome address and appreciated the efforts taken by K. Kasthurirangan and his committee in drafting the NEP.

Several key aspects of NEP like flexibility, blended-learning, gross enrolment ratio (GER), higher-order thinking were highlighted in his talk.

P.V. Mohanram, Secretary, delivered the presidential address and spoke about the importance of nurturing students with academic, social, and emotional competence coupled with communication and professional skills.

The need for offering course on Universal Human Values (UHV) was emphasized, along with several other courses like Sustainability Studies. Further, the student-centric approach to education practiced across PSG Institutions was highlighted.

Pratapsinh Kakaso Desai, President, ISTE delivered the inaugural address. In his address, he elaborated on the objective of education in Indian context, to stress the importance of knowledge creation. The importance of ancient education and rich cultural background were highlighted with examples from the history.

Later, salient features of the national education policy like various flexibilities in pursuing higher education were highlighted. At the same time, the ideation behind the introduction of NEP like offering collaborative educational courses with foreign universities for the larger benefit of Indian students was discussed during his speech.

Other eminent speakers of the webinar included Prof. Sathans Suhag, National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra, Col. B. Venkat, Director, AICTE, G. Karuppusami, Dean- Research and Innovations, Sri Eshwar College of Engineering, Coimbatore, and P Subbaraj, Dean, PSG iTech. Around 100 participants from various institutions actively participated in the event and benefitted. The valedictory ceremony of the event was held in the evening. D. Pricilla, V. Selvapriya, Asst. Professors, Dept. of Civil Engineering and G Rajeshkumar, Associate Professor, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering coordinated the webinar. Finally, M.I. Abdul Aleem, Professor and Head, Dept. of Civil Engineering, proposed the vote of thanks.
