An informal summit after period of tension

While the entire Mammalapuram ( and Chennai) coming under extreme control of the police & security forces due to the arrival of Xi Jin Ping, President of China and Indian PM, Narendra Modi to take part in the informal summit on 11.10.2019; expectations are high on what will the Chinese leader discuss & announce in his visit.

Although it was speculated that the focus of the summit will be about taking forward the bilateral ties, ensure mutual development and expanding overall relationship; it was reported by NDTV that there would not be any release of joint statements and no announcement of MoU.

China and India’s friendship received a mild tussle due to the bifurcation of Jammu & Kashmir, as China too shares the border (and claims that it has control over a portion of the Kashmir area called Aksai Chin)

China was unhappy with India for withdrawing the special status Kashmir had , while India was not appreciative of China’s statements and actions – China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi raised the Kashmir Issue at UN General Assembly and criticized the decision taken by India, while India said the Kashmir Issue is entirely internal.

In another instance, China’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Yao Jing said China was working for Kashmir to help them get their fundamental rights and justice.

But on 9.10.2019, China said that the dispute should be resolved by New Delhi and Islamabad. This statement was given 2 days ahead of the Chinese President’s visit, reported NDTV.

Jin Ping will arrive on Friday (11.10.2019) noon and would spend a day in Chennai.  Saturday morning is likely to be the time for the informal summit and in the meantime, the Chinese and Indian powerhouses will visit heritage temples, monuments built by Pallava Dynasty belonging to the 7th and 8th Centuries, followed by cultural programs and a private dinner, sources said. In 24 hours the Chinese president will leave India. Security measures have been beefed up to great heights.
