Iceland, World’s most peaceful country – report

India ranked 141 among 163 surveyed nations

The world has 195 countries and each of us have a desire to dwell in the richest, fertile and technologically advanced country but some of us fail to acknowledge that living in a county that is the most peaceful is the ultimate wish a person could dream of. We all want peace in life and recently, the Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP) ,an independent organization released its annual report on the most peaceful countries.

The 163 countries that are on IEP’s Global Peace Index (GPI) were ranked and it was found that Iceland is the most peaceful country in the world.

How the GPI measures the level of peace in a country falls into 3 categories: it captures the absence of violence or the fear of violence across three domains: Safety and Security, Ongoing Conflict, and Militarization. So peace is measured not just with the presence or absence of war.  “The 2019 GPI reveals a world in which the tensions, conflicts, and crises that emerged in the past decade remain unresolved”, the report said.

Next to Iceland hold the top places are held by New Zealand (2nd), followed by Portugal, Austria and Denmark. These countries held the top 5 places while Afghanistan was the least peaceful country, preceded by Syria, South Sudan, Yemen and Iraq. It must be noted that India is on the 141th place of the 163 countries surveyed.
