9.19 TMC Water for TN from Karnataka from June – CWMA

The state of Karnataka has been ordered by Cauvery Water Management Authority that it should release 9.19 TMC water from June to Tamil Nadu.

The 3rd Meeting of Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) was held on 28.05.2019 under the chairmanship of S.Masood Husain, Chairman, CWMA & CWC. It was held in CWC-HQ, New Delhi .

During the meeting of the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) S.K.Prabhakar, Secretary, PWD, Govt. of Tamil Nadu who is the representative of Tamil Nadu made it a request that the Karnataka government should release 9.19 TMC water  on June. Earlier, the Government of Tamil Nadu expressed strong opposition when the plans about Mekedatu dam was added in the meet’s agenda and stated that since the case filed by the Tamil Nadu Government is pending, there shouldn’t be any discussions about it in the meet.

The CWMA accepted the requests placed by the TN Govt and ordered the release of water. After the announcement, D.K.Shivakumar, Minister of Water Resources, Government of Karnataka said that the government will discuss about the order issued by the CWMA and will decide soon. He also pointed that if there is abundant water in Karnataka, the Government then has no objection in releasing the water to Tamil Nadu.
