As a part of the Kumaraguru Institutions’ Founder’s Day Celebrations, a district level open chess tournament for junior level was held in Kumaraguru College of Technology. The tournament was organized by Dr.N.Mahalingam Chess Academy. An enthusiastic 195 Chess players in & around Coimbatore enthusiastically participated in the tournament which featured multiple categories of competitions including under age -9, under age – 12, under age – 15 & open category. A total of 5 rounds were played by each player and Swiss System was followed. A Swiss-system tournament is a non-eliminating tournament format which features a set number of rounds of competition. Shankar Vanavarayar, Joint Correspondent of Kumaraguru Institutions presided over the event.
I.Devadarshaan & J.Mirinalini bagged the first place in under 9 age category, V.S.Nandish and S.Sherlina bagged the first place in under 12 age category, Midhun Kumar and Rosewe bagged the first place in under 15 age category. Under open category K.Dhanasekhar bagged the first prize.
The prizes were distributed by V. Raju, President, KCT, Ravi Kandasamy, Head – PMO, KCT and Udhay Shankar, Secretary of Dr.N.Mahalingam Chess Academy.
Trophies were given to the first three winners in each category while certificate of merit was provided to all the other participants.
The total cash award amounting Rs. 30,500 and trophies was shared among the winners as per their categories.
